Why Chinese language favored by locals in Vietnam?
Apr 14,2025 Great Wall New Media

Thanks to centuries of cultural exchange between China and Vietnam, the Vietnamese language contains a large number of Sino-Vietnamese words—terms that originated from Chinese and still carry the sounds of Middle Chinese. This deep-rooted linguistic connection gives Vietnamese people a natural sense of closeness to the Chinese language and culture.

Zhao Shilei, an overseas communication officer of the Great Wall International Communication Center, is part of this growing wave of "Chinese fever". After spending three years studying Chinese in Hebei, she returned to Vietnam and now teaches Chinese at Phenikaa University in Hanoi. Through her perspective, let's explore why more and more Vietnamese students are falling in love with Chinese and Chinese culture.
