In a field of more than 13 hectares in Songyuchi village of Gaobeidian, Hebei province, growers have been harvesting leeks in recent days.
"This year we have a rich harvest, with each hectare yielding more than 75,000 kilograms of leeks," said Li Hang, the village's Party secretary.
"We have made great efforts in variety selection, seedling culture, transplantation and irrigation, " Li said, adding that the leeks will be sold in many places across the country.

According to Li, residents started to make use of some scattered, idle land in the village several years ago to grow leeks and other crops. The work is managed by a local cooperative.
While generating income for the village, the cooperative has helped more than 30 residents land jobs at home.
